New Music: Weekly Releases for May 1, 2023
NEW MUSIC ALERT
Hello music lovers and hello May! Welcome back to this week's music alert.
Let's kick it off by celebrating the belated birthday of Willie Nelson. The 90-year-old legend received all sorts of celebratory posts across social platforms from musicians and entertainers alike. It seems as if nothing can slow down the beloved Texas native, who recently collaborated with Billy Strings. The duo dropped their new single, "California Sober."
In the midst of a legal battle regarding accusations of whether or not he ripped off the late Marvin Gaye, Ed Sheeran released another track off his forthcoming album, "Boat," set to drop on Friday, May 5th. The singer-songwriter was recently quoted as saying that if found guilty, he vows to step away from the business. Like Sheeran, I too would find being accused of stealing from another artist rather insulting to my craft and quite inflammatory.
Sending my love to Ed during this ongoing suit and wishing that the justice system comes through for him.
On the topic of another pop icon, Ms. Bebe Rexha did the dang thing! She surprised us fans with an unlikely but highly welcomed collaboration with none other than Dolly Parton. Both Rexha and Parton bring a unique sound to their new song, "Seasons." While the song fits right in on a party playlist, the lyrics are some that can get your feelings going but in the best way possible. I'd say this release comes right on time on the heels of one of the most transformative periods for us as a whole.
Two other notable releases worth a quick mention come from Thundercats featuring Tame Impala in the indie rock genre and Natanael Cano in regional Mexican music.
