Quick Chat on This & That: Raleigh Keegan

As someone that loves a good backstory, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that rising Country Music artist Raleigh Keegan‘s birth story was just one of his many intriguing tales. The singer/songwriter was born in an Ohio Jail to a brave, selfless single mother. He was placed for adoption just days after his birth to a loving family that has demonstrated an unwavering love and support towards his musical endeavors.

Though he showed an interest for music at a young age, it would be years after graduating with a degree in Exercise Science that he’d eventually pursue his true calling. The naturally musically-inclined young man always seemed to turn to music regardless of his athletic abilities. I imagine the moment he sold his house, in order to fund his first EP, was the last nail to solidify his decision - making it down to Music City.

I had the opportunity to chat with Raleigh about his newest EP, ‘A Tale of 7 Cities.’ I knew the moment he answered the phone that I was speaking to someone with a whole lot of drive. I had not yet taken a sip of my coffee but I was awaken by the enthusiasm on the other end of the call.

Unfortunately, his management team and I weren’t able to schedule a time to connect at CMA fest a few weeks prior. So naturally, I had to ask: How was CMA Fest? He very quickly and happily responded with: “It was awesome. It was really cool but very busy! I got to meet and see a lot of people and fans. It was nice to reconnect with people after two years.” He also mentioned having a blast at his booth signing at Fan Fair.

While he wasn’t able to participate the entire weekend of CMA Fest, he shared he had to hit the road following his appearance for a gig up in Chicago, Illinois that Saturday. By Sunday night, he was back in Music City.

Talk about a Rolling Stone.

Like most musicians with new releases in the works, I asked whether or not he had any plans to tour in conjunction with the release of his new EP. Though I could sense there was a bit of sadness with his response, Keegan firmly responded with “There’s no tour planned around this EP but I have one off dates scheduled.”

To cheer things back up, I made sure to focus on the most important topic of conversation: A Tale of 7 Cities. However you want to look at it, who needs to tour when you have tracks that can take you to those places when you hit play.

That is exactly what Raleigh was hoping to do with this project. He shared with me that he wanted to apply musical influences from each city and incorporate them into that song. One of the songs that really stood out to me was ‘How’s The View In New York City.’ From the instruments to the lyrics - you can really visualize the city lights through the eyes of Raleigh.
